Cheers to the Weekend!

I typically reserve this corner for wine, but let’s talk life, weekends and Mango Jalapeño Margaritas, shall we?

What I’m Watching While Sipping this Cocktail:

Ozark, Season 2! The show was shot with such a dark, misty, cool tone that quickly envelopes me in the suspense. It snatches me up from the comforts of my couch and throws me right into the woods with the creepy Snells, as they hunt deer, murder their own men, and set up a heroin empire. You can toast this margarita to their illusive business partners from south of the border.

What I’m Listening to While Sipping Mango Jalapeño Margaritas:

Last we sipped, I was obsessed with the Goal Digger Podcast, but since I have only been working on one, big project for the past six months, I found the podcast to be too inspiring. I wanted to apply all the lessons I was learning and implement too many ideas (anyone else relate to that?). I was getting ahead of myself, so I had to put it on hold, and I took a very dark turn. Since then, I’ve been BINGING my way through My Favorite Murder.

Any “murderinos” out there?

I blame my fascination with crime on my dad’s habit of watching Unsolved Mysteries, 911, Dateline, etc… the typical cocktail of terrible shows children in the 80s and 90s watched with minimal supervision. The psychology of the crimes fascinate me. However, what I love most about the podcast is how the hysterical hosts, Karen and Georgia, encourage listeners, especially women, to “F&*k politeness.” Rather, we need to listen to our gut, and if something doesn’t feel right, get the hell out of dodge. Don’t risk your safety just to fit some societal norm of what it means to be a woman. #PREACH

Side Note: Check out this Regal Collars portrait inspired by My Favorite Murder. I may have had a hand in that.

What I’m Eating While Sipping Mango Jalapeño Margaritas:

An individually-portioned, organic Healthyish Cake with Organic Vanilla Bean Frosting and a Mango Rose (that sounds like a screen name, doesn’t it?). Though I love making layer cakes, like this rhurbarb number for the birthday boy, sometimes, I just want something small and sweet. I don’t want to eat the same cake for a week, which is where Healthyish comes into play.

We’re also eating a lot of grain bowls. The Rustbelt Farmer spends long days in the heat and humidity, and he hasn’t been feeling 100%, so though I still appease my sweet tooth, we’ve also been loading up on brown rice, crispy kale and roasted veggies.

What I’m Reading While Sipping Mango Jalapeño Margaritas:

I finally finished Bel Canto by Ann Patchett. I’ve been working my way through her portfolio of novels, always in awe of the way she can describe a character so succinctly. Reading the book took me longer than it should have, but it seems I’m just in time, since the story will be hitting the big screen

That’s it for now, friends! Thanks for hanging. Leave me your latest obsessions below, and let’s keep this chat rolling into Sunday brunch.

Cheers,

I just had a mango-rum drink, but I’d much rather have had something with a jalapeno bite!
